Aberdeen Sub-Aqua Club
We are an award winning, active and friendly SCUBA diving club based in the north east of Scotland. We dive hundreds of times a year around our coast and on organised weekend/week long trips. We have our own boats, compressors and equipment that we can rent to members. We are active in training and provide courses and certification to our club members for all levels of diver, from beginner to experienced. We welcome experienced divers from all agencies!
Come and join us!
Aberdeen Sub-Aqua Club was formed in 1958 and has around 100 SCUBA diving members of varying ages and qualification levels. We are part of the British Sub-Aqua Club and one of the longest established diving clubs in the North East of Scotland. Take a look at this video of club members diving in 1960!
We are especially pleased to have been awarded the 2023 Heinke Trophy by the British Sub Aqua Club, a group of over 1,500 SCUBA diving clubs.
"The Heinke Trophy is BSAC's way of recognising the significant contribution our clubs and members make to the growth and development of scuba diving. The trophy is presented every year to the BSAC club considered to have done the most to further the interests of its members and of BSAC."
Aberdeenshire has a fabulous coastline for shore diving and many great local sites. The visibility can be as good as 20m and there is a huge variety of marine life to see. We also arrange club dive trips, and have visited Oban, Inner Hebrides, St Kilda, Kinlochbervie and Norway already this year, with trips to Skye, Scapa Flow and Loch Duich planned for the remainder. Have a look at our Expeditions page for more detail. For more information about the club and our diving, take a look at the About Us and Gallery pages.
If you are new to diving and would like to give it a go, why don't you use our Contacts Form to book a Try Dive. This is an introduction to diving where an instructor will show you how to assemble and use diving equipment and then take you for a dive in a swimming pool. It costs £35 for a session and if you like it, we can then discuss how you can take your SCUBA diver training forward.
Our 2024 training has started and we are not taking any further trainees until October 2025.
We welcome experienced divers from all diving agencies, there is no crossover training necessary, simply join us and dive at the level of your current agency certification. If you wish to develop your skills further, we offer BSAC training.
We have an active training programme and completed online lectures this year for Ocean Diver, Sports Diver and Dive Leader theory courses. Our trip to Oban in spring was primarily held to certify new Ocean Divers and to advance diver certifications to Sports Diver and Dive Leader. Unlike many other diving agencies, instruction and certification with BSAC is free to club members (there are charges for workbooks, pool fees, kit hire etc.). You can learn more about our training programme on the Training page. Have look at our FAQs page where we have summarised answers to the typical questions we get asked, but if you still have questions or want to get in touch, please use the Contacts Form, we'd love to hear from you and typically respond within a few hours!
If you would like to join an award winning club with easy going members diving in Scotland at all times of the year then you will be very welcome in our branch.
